Your hosts are Arthur and Pamela Turner. They have been hosts to more than 1200 guests at their former residence and now invite you to join them at Kuirau Lodge.
Arthur is currently an Advanced Care Paramedic with the Ambulance service but was a former Fisheries Officer with the Internal Affairs Department. Born in Aruba (A small island of the coast of South America) he, and his family, immigrated to New Zealand in 1960. Growing up in Rotorua and having the opportunity for extensive travel throughout New Zealand as a technical field officer for fisheries provided Arthur with a sound knowledge base to inform guests on local and national places of interest.
Arthur enjoys country music, fishing, tennis, golf, windsurfing and home handyman projects. He is also a member of the local Rotorua Musical Theatre Society.
Pamela (Pam) is a co director of Rotorua’s leading travel agency House of Travel and has been in the industry for 24 years. Born in Rotorua she is a true native of New Zealand having both Maori and European ancestry. Extensive overseas travel and her experience within the travel industry has proven beneficial in meeting the needs of guests and assisting with their travel arrangements both locally and to other New Zealand destinations.
Pam enjoys sailing, reading, windsurfing, and is also a member of the Rotorua Musical Theatre Society.
Adding to the homely atmosphere is our son Jordan (16yrs old) and our Border Collie Dog, Jacky, and two cats, Jania (Grey) and Jasmine (long haired Ginger and white).
A dynamic provincial city, Rotorua provides both residents and visitors with a wealth of outdoor and indoor experiences and activities.
The centre of Maoridom, Rotorua provides the best cultural experiences in New Zealand. From original Maori carving at Te Puia’s arts and craft training institution to traditionally cooked meals and song and dance at the Tamiki Tours Hangi and Cultural show.
The Volcanic Plateau, within which lies Rotorua, is the home to a myriad of lakes. Most are accessible and provide abundant opportunity to the water sport enthusiasts with sailing, fishing, waterskiing, white water rafting and jet boating all readily available.
Mountain bike enthusiasts will be spell bound by the diversity and scenic beauty of the skill graded tracks in the Redwood Forest, 3km’s from the city centre. The success of Rotorua hosting the World Mountain Bike Championships in 2006 has earnt it an International reputation for a must do mountain bike experience.
Other activities include visiting one of the volcanic/thermal parks such as Te Puia’s Whakarewarewa, Waimangu, or Hells Gate and Waiora Spa.
The Rainbow springs complex, home to the Kiwi Experience and Kiwi Conservation Programme, is always worth a visit. Some of New Zealand’s largest Rainbow trout are resident here along with a variety of native birds set in a beautiful park complex.
For the adventure enthusiasts there is luge riding at Skyline sky rides. zorb riding, bungee jumping, jet boat rides and the world famous sheep show, all at the Agrodome. White water rafting, parachute jumping and four wheel drive experiences are also available.
The Government Gardens, home to the Rotorua museum and art gallery, housed in the historical Tudor Towers bathhouse complex, and the new Events Centre, provide a pleasant and relaxed alternative to the action adventure. Lawn bowls and croquet greens are located in this area along with the historic Blue Bath complex.
The Events centre opened in early 2007 adds further enhancement to the functionality of Rotorua as the convention and conference capital.
Your hosts will be happy to help organise your activities during your stay in our lovely city.
